What?
News this week states a Philadelphia school district is accused of spying on students via their school-issued laptops that have web cams.
So What?
With technology increasing in advancements, we assume that it is best to keep up with the times in our schools. Some schools (districts) see it best to issue technology out to student. This is great, especially for student that may not already have access to such technology yet. But, what about situations like this in Philadelphia. Though there is denial of invasion of privacy, what about the fast-to-react thoughts that comes out of the situation. Such as issues about safety in ones home, "big brother," privacy, and etc. This kind of technology attention may get some to re-think the use of technology in schools.
Now What?
In the end, I suppose that it may not be as bad as it turned out to be. Sure, reactions may be flaring and court will be held, but it most likely will be that mistakes are made all around. It just might be that fine print will have to be enlarged and certain precautions will be taken to ensure nothing of this nature will happen again. It really is important for technology to have a place amongst learning and adapt and grow with the future.

This is interesting. By giving students computers it can allow them to have access to things they wouldn't maybe have at home and they might get more done this way. But there are also things like this that can go on. We try not to think about the bad things that can happen, but they are very possible.
ReplyDeleteWow Jonas that is pretty crazy. I feel like that school could get into a lot of trouble. That is a total viotation of rights. I agree with what you are saying about technology in our classrooms. We need to think about it before we just put it in our classrooms. There are always positives and negatives about adding these things to our classrooms.
