Assignment #2

The activity I will be using is Geography of the Western World from Instructional Technologies, Wichita Public Schools website.

Some features of the Smart board used are:
Pens/eraser
Pull Tabs
Balloon Pop

A teacher's NETS standard that can be viewed from this activity is "Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments."
- the fact that the Smart board is being used is incorporating digital technology.
-the activity used is a producer of a technologically-enriched learning environment. It allows
for student interaction and collaboration.
-this activity allows for a general student learning assessment, allowing for a general idea of
student progress with subject matter.
- also allows for multiple learning styles amongst the students (visual, audible, interaction, etc).

Multiple students NETS standards can contribute to this activity some (various parts of each):
- Students demonstrate creative thinking, apply existing knowledge (NETS #1)
- students interact, collaborate, communicate with each other and instructor (NETS#2)
- processing data given by the activity, evaluates and analyzes information received (NETS#3)
- Critical thinking, problem solving, and Decision making is used by communication (NETS #4)
- understanding safe and proper use of technology used, demonstrating responsibility (NETS#5)
- understanding use of the technology used, using previous knowledge of technology (NETS #6)

An interactive board can improve student learn by helping make subject matter more engaging. It helps by utilizing all student learning styles. Today, just using technology may improve learning in the classroom. It does not necessarily need to be a interactive board, just something to help engage the students more. If possible I will definitely use an interactive board along with other technological tools. As a social studies teacher, technology will be extremely helpful, even if just for map showing. Technology itself is part of history. What better a way to teach history of technology than with technology.
