begining of semester reflection

technology is important, it has become a nessesity in many ways. most children of today grow up surround by technology, it only makes since that it is introduced in schools and utilized to it's full potential. obviously children learn diffrently and at diffrent ages, so the type of technology used and taught to use will advance over time; naturally as a child goes through the levels of k-12 the technology will become mor advanced.
as a teacher i plan on using all avaliable technology that is redaly avaliable and if nessary aquire funds (even if it means i must use my own) to have it.

the article in The Roanoke Times (VA) "HIGH-TECH DEVICES REPLACE OLD-SCHOOL WHITE BOARDS" shows a basic view about why technology is important in the classroom simply by using "interactive pen displays." this technology can be utilized in all subject matters and can help with students focusing on the material.

using a whiteboard can help with making materials taught more engaging for the students. they allow for interaction and display material in multiply ways (video, images, etc.). a teacher may spend a good amount of time preparing lessons but the material can be well organized and be beneficial with quick access to other uses such a the Internet (accessing educational websites and such).

students today can be more engaged in learning when technology is in use. they have been surround by it, grown up with it, & lived with it; why not use it to teach.

the article "Turning on the Lights," definitely brings forth issues concerning educating the youth of today and the future. i agree that technologically the education students receive is behind the times. at the same time i believe it is important to teach the value of learning through resources outside of today's technology. i believe that having the ability and opportunity to learn from both sides allows one to perceive, think, obtain, etc. on their own instead of relying on technology for the sole information. unfortunately, with today's technology (via Internet, video games, etc) some information widely available is corrupt, possibly giving a misrepresentation of fact. possibly one day this issue can be resolve, but even then, there is no reason to not read a book.

entry 1

I plan on teaching history at a secondary level in Alaska. I wish to teach in the "bush" to begin my teaching carreer. I then wish to return to my home town area to teach. In my home town I had noticed that some of the youth did not recongnize the importance of education. I hope to show the importance of finishing their secondary education and continuing education after the seconday level.

This semester I hope to learn some of the skills and tools to become an effective educator.
